Two escort ships of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) will bring around 600 crew members for a stopover in Palau as part of Japan’s Overseas Training Cruise and also to celebrate the two nations’ 25 years of diplomatic relationship.

Japan’s ships, JS Kashima and JS Inazuma, will be in Palau from October 8 to 11. Part of the purpose of the Overseas Training Cruise is to develop the seamanship of Japan’s newly commissioned officers while also promoting friendly relations with port call countries.

During crew’s stay in Palau, the Japan 25th anniversary event will be staged on October 9 at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center at 6pm for the public to enjoy the Japanese Brass Band concert, Karate demonstration, drum performance, and also to witness an awarding ceremony for former Palau State Minister Billy Kuartei as he will receive the 2019 Spring Imperial Decorations.
