Introducing Judo & Kimono to Palauan Schools
The year 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Palau as well as the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Palau. In addition, the 10th Pacific Island Leaders Meeting (PALM10) will be held in Tokyo on the 16th to the 18th of July, which the 18 representatives from the Pacific Island Forum (PIF), including Palau and Japan will attend.
In effort to celebrate these occasions, the Embassy of Japan in Palau is pleased to announce that we will hold Japan Culture Week, introducing Judo and Kimono to various schools in Palau, including Angaur, Peleliu, and Kayangel Elementary Schools. This is not only to celebrate the longstanding diplomatic ties but also deepen mutual understanding.
Judo, known for its principles of discipline and respect, will be showcased through interactive demonstrations, offering students a firsthand experience of this traditional form of combat, now known as a form of martial arts sport. Students will have an opportunity to learn about the Kimono attire, highlighting its rich history and significance in Japanese customs.
Through these activities, Japan Culture Week aims to deepen cultural exchanges and strengthen the bonds of friendship between our nations. The Embassy looks forward to engaging with Palauan’s students and educators in a spirit of celebration and collaboration, promoting cultural diversity and mutual learning.
